FLEA CONTROL
There seems to be some confusion over whether to use flea control monthly or even whether to use it at all. My vet advised me quite some time ago to use it between April and October as that when fleas abound. I have found through the years that if I do not use any monthly application, but just use Advantage when a flea appears, my dogs are far more healthy. Lucky has some allergy issues and so the less 'stuff' he has to be exposed to the better he fares. He is also highly allergic to fleas, so if we have even one in the house, we know it because it will surely jump on him and he will begin to scratch like crazy. We have had one flea outbreak in our home over the past twenty years and that was because a visiting dog brought in a coat full. The elderly owner of the dog was misinformed and thought that if she gave her dog PROGRAM it would take care of the problem. However, PROGRAM just sterilizes the flea so that it cannot reproduce. ADVANTAGE will kill the adult fleas within 24 hours. There are also other products, such as REVOLUTION that take care of fleas, ticks, heartworm and a number of other things. We treated all the dogs with ADVANTAGE and the fleas disappeared.
