What makes Miss Behavior's unique?

  • Unlike some trainers, we recognize that it is training people to train their dogs, so we encourage the whole family to get involved.

  • Fast Paced Training compared to most conventional obedience training with positive results in just a few weeks - we make it fun for you and your dog.

  • Immersion Method twice a week ensures fast learning for beginners.

  • Most courses are in blocks of 8 spread over 8 weeks, our course is 12 classes spread over 6 weeks and our prices actually work out less per session, especially if you compare the cost of two courses(16 classes) required to gain the same information as we deliver in 12 .
  • Flexible Schedule for Advanced Classes - we offer Flex-Pass Advanced Drop-in in 6 different locales around the Nanaimo weather permitting.

  • Theory on how your dog learns at the end of each session while the lesson is fresh in your mind.

  • One on One Private Counseling available to help remedy problem behavior.

  • Outdoor Training in the warmer months teaches your dog to focus on you and not to be distracted by sounds, sights and smells.

  • Location seems to be a major consideration when choosing a training class. We are conveniently located in Central Nanaimo, where you and your dog walk, play and live.
  • Each class is taught by Kathy Reilly and Tracey Klymchuk, professional trainers who have attended many workshops and seminars on problem behaviors such as aggression and barking inappropriately.  We keep adding to our basic "tool kit", by learning different  training methods taught  by top North American Trainers.
  • We recognize that each dog and each handler is individual.  There is no hard and fast method for training.  Lumping different breeds together under one method does not work.  We work with your personality and your dog's temperament to find out what works for both of you.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE ON WHO BEST TO WORK WITH YOU

A poor trainer can do more harm than good

1. Are the trainers full time professionals or do they just participate in training as a hobby or as amateur volunteers?
2. What courses have the trainers had?
3. Do the trainers have any experience in training people?  It truly is people training, so this is important.
4. Are the courses designed to keep you coming back to gain more information or will you have enough at the end to continue with your dog on your own?
5. Are the trainers certified?  By whom? There is no official certification available in Canada at present, however individual schools will certify trainers, but the standards change depending on which school or in some cases, big box store, certifies them.
5. Does the trainer profess to have developed a training method that is uniquely his/hers? Caution: there is science behind good training methods and anyone experimenting with his own way and who has not seen the benefit of working with successful professionals and taking workshops to expand their knowledge, is very arrogant and probably does not have your best interest at heart.
6. How many years have the trainers been working professionally?
7. How many dogs have they trained?
8. Will they provide references?
9. Will they allow you to watch a class?
10. Do they want to take your dog away to train?  This is usually not successful because YOU need to know what methods are being used so that you can implement them at home.  Personally, I would never allow my dog to be taken out of my sight to train.
